Suddenly it starts
Can two anxious hearts beat as one?
Yesterday I was alone
Today you walk beside me
Suddenly I see
What I could not see

YES!! Finally I got around to finish one damn Les Mis fanart!
It's no use denying how much they have taken over my life haha! The movie is absolutely beautiful, and the book is extraordinary. I love all of these characters so much. Especially Valjean.
And I absolutely love Valjean and little Cosette's relationship! So much love!
Some time ago I read a post on Tumblr in which people complained about the fact that they cut off parts of "Drink With Me" and "Turning" to make space for "Suddenly", Valjean and Cosette's song basically. They said it's the most boring thing ever or something like this.
Well, I can't really understand if they were being ironic, but I guess those people have read the book and therefore should understand this song was a BEAUTIFUL and necessary add to actually try and explain what Valjean feels about Cosette... I do get the love for the Barricade Boys and everything, but you can say everything about this song, except that it's boring and useless. Haha sorry for the rant, just needed to get this out of my system!! x)
If you have the chance, do yourself a favor and watch this movie! It's absolutely worth it. I knew almost nothing about Les Mis before it (except it was written by Victor Hugo...haha! Shame on me!) and now I love it SO much. I haven't had these feels since the first time I watched Star Wars, I think. Great characters, great plot, great everything. And the songs. Whoa.
(oh, and speaking about SW, I hope I'm able to draw something about it very soon D: )
I hope you like this fanart just a bit :')
The colors aren't really cool but I hope you'll like it anyway, I haven't got to practice in so long due to exams and stuff ;_;
See you guys!!
Oh, I forgot!! I had hoped to be able to post it yesterday, for Easter. I mean, Easter's true meaning is Jesus being reborn, and Les Mis is like, the perfect movie to show how God can be important... but I couldn't finish it in time haha!! Consider this as an Easter gift though, if you want! x)
Regarding the song, the problem may be less about love for the students and more that it seems to be movie-only. So there are purist issues, and also many fans of the musical were not thrilled by Jackson's Val Jean. I've noticed that fans of the book seem to appreciate the movie more.
I LOVE THIS PIC!!!
Gee, I totally need to draw Javert. He's definitely my favorite, together with Valjean!
Yeah, I only did a few sketches of him, but I love Javert a lot so I hope to be able to make some fanart about him someday!!
You got the colours and their expressions and the shading... spot on!
And YES! I LOVE THAT SONG SOO MUUUCH!!
Yeah, maybe the song was so they could get an Oscar nomination for a new song, yeah they cut bits and pieces, but y'know what?? The emotion and whatnot carries over completely!
Boring? In my opinion, no... It captures the necessary emotion of the two.
In fact, this song summarizes this part of the book here:
"Jean Valjean had never loved anything; for twenty-five years he had been alone in the world. He had never been father, lover, husband, friend. In the prison he had been vicious, gloomy, chaste, ignorant, and shy. The heart of that ex-convict was full of virginity. His sister and his sister's children had left him only a vague and far-off memory which had finally almost completely vanished; he had made every effort to find them, and not having been able to find them, he had forgotten them. Human nature is made thus; the other tender emotions of his youth, if he had ever had any, had fallen into an abyss.
When he saw Cosette, when he had taken possession of her, carried her off, and delivered her, he felt his heart moved within him.
All the passion and affection within him awoke, and rushed towards that child. He approached the bed, where she lay sleeping, and trembled with joy. He suffered all the pangs of a mother, and he knew not what it meant; for that great and singular movement of a heart which begins to love is a very obscure and a very sweet thing."
Sorry for the ludicrously long comment, but I'm glad I'm finding more and more people who actually found that particular song necessary; they didn't have it on stage 'cause there's an entirely different pace that needs to be kept...
Anyways, awesome picture my friend!
I read the Brick after I saw the musical, but heck, I absolutely thought about Suddenly when reading that part! Something like "OH, now THAT'S the musical rendition of such an important part of the book!".
So it's really everything but useless! Instead, it's very, very, very important.
I'm so glad that you like my drawing!!
And even more glad to find such a dedicated fan as you makes me feel like I'm not alone, hehe!!
Really no need to apologize, I agree with you on every bit! <)
I read the book long before I even knew of the musical; I didn't know there was a musical until the MOVIE musical was being promoted!
I was like, "WHY DIDN"T ANYONE TELL ME THIS?! "
But, I like pretty much all the versions of this story; some bits are done better here and there elsewhere... but the movie musical did a great job
I'm glad I found your drawing; it looks great
Hahaha... if certain people don't like certain things, that's actually fine with me, I just like to offer a second opinion... what I don't like it when people claim the opposer has "no taste" or "doesn't know what their talking about...
If that makes sense?
Thanks again. I'm glad you agree and I'm glad you found something to enjoy and inspire a drawing like this
That's so cool! As for me I knew almost nothing about all this magnificent stuff until I saw the movie. Seems like that film really brought a lot of people into knowing more about Les Mis and that's just great <)
I think it was very good because it did an awesome job in mixing the original musical with things that were actually more faithful to the book, so it's a very nice "compromise" between the two!
Yeah, absolutely understand what you mean... I have been through that kind of insults a lot when I draw Star Wars related stuff, so yeah -_-
Thank you thank you thank you!!
YES! THANK YOU! THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I SAID!! The majority of the changes the made to the musical aspects were to accommodate bits of the book they couldn't get on stage; props to both, I say; there is a TON of stuff to cram in and the movie musical balanced both very well!
Ooooh... I hear the Star Wars fandom is... pretty rough in the regard of which "versions" are better lol That always cheeses me off; I like your work very much... and then the "crazies" (every fandom has crazies ) flail their arms and complain when, if they don't like it, they could simply LEAVE
You're welcome, you're welcome, you're welcome
